Plot
Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “Skeleton Crew”; and more stars from a galaxy far, far away.. The holographic circus that entertains Neil’s young siblings is similar to Chewbacca’s family watch from the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
Skeleton Crew is a TV series for kids
Which is fine, because Star Wars has often been kid-friendly, and why wouldn’t there be a Star Wars theme for kids? But it’s not an adult show about kids like Stranger Things or Paper Girls. It’s more like a show specifically designed to appeal to 10-year-olds.
Skeleton Crew starts in the suburbs
It’s a suburb in the Star Wars universe, but take away the robots and aliens, and it could have been where I grew up. So it was an interesting twist for a moment or two. Unfortunately, these suburbs are full of boring characters with interesting problems.
When is Jude Law going to show up?
Yes, all of this is set up for the big moment at the end of the first episode, but I was so bored with that first episode that I started to skip ahead about halfway through and wondered if the final act would even get better. Maybe. But I feel like if the first episode of a show is too boring for me to handle, it’s not going to improve very quickly.
